IMLAC LOADING PROCEDURE:

1.Turn OFF the IMLAC's main power switch at the left rear corner. (It
must remain off for at least 6 seconds.)

2.Switch the "Start At" switch (at right rear of IMLAC) to "40". This is
the starting address of the IMLAC's hard wired bootstrap loader.

3.If the power switch has been off for at least 6 seconds, then switch it
back on. The RUN light (little red light beside "Start At" switch)
should come on and stay on. If it does not stay on, start the Loading
  Procedure over again.

4.On another (logged-in) console or teletype, type "R FIXIML". This may be
done from an adjacent IMLAC, a teletype in Pine Hall or you may call the
A.I.Project on extension 4971 and ask any co-operative sounding person to
run FIXIML for you. After this program is started, it will ask "RELOAD
WHICH IMLAC?". The correct response will be "16" or "17"--depending on
which of these Line numbers appears on the black dymo label attached to
the lower right corner of the keyboard for the particular IMLAC you want
to load. After you respond with one of these numbers followed by
"RETURN", program FIXIML will say "TYPE IN YOUR PPN." followed by "#" on
the next line. At this point you should type your PPN exactly as if you
were logging in. (You must separate your project and your programmmer
name with a comma.) If the IMLAC is logged in under someone else's PPN,
then FIXIML will not work unless you give the PPN under which the IMLAC
is logged in. If the IMLAC is not logged in at all, FIXIML will work
okay. If there is no problem, then FIXIML will say "START THE IMLAC AT
40; THEN HIT <CR>". If you did steps 1 to 3 above correctly, then you
have already started the IMLAC at 40, so just hit the carriage-return
key. If you haven't done steps 1 to 3 yet, do them now and then hit
carriage-return and come back to here. When you type <CR>, FIXIML will
say "SENDING LOADER" followed quickly by "LOADING RIP". Then look to
see that the Run light is still on (unless you are not where you can
observe it). If it is not on, start the Loading Procedure over again.
If it is on, or if you aren't near it, wait approximately 2 or 3 minutes,
after which, program FIXIML should type out "RIP LOADED!", "EXIT", and
"↑C". At this point loading should be complete. If loading was
successful, a curser should appear in the upper left corner of the
  IMLAC's  display  screen.  If it does not, hit the CALL key on the IMLAC;
if still nothing happens, then turn the IMLAC off for at least 6 seconds,
set the "START AT" switch to "100" and (after the 6 seconds) turn the
IMLAC back on again. Then hit CALL again to see if the IMLAC is now
working. If it is, then you need read no further. If not, the whole
Loading Procedure must be started over again (see the notes below first).

NOTES: 1.Patience and persistence are valuable assets. It may take
several tries before the IMLAC is successfully loaded.

2.If the IMLAC cannot be loaded after trying several times,
enter a note in the IMLAC Trouble Log describing the problem.
Also please send a note to Dave Emerson by using the system
SEND command by typing "SEND DWE" (on a working console).
The SEND program will tell you how to use it.
